Case Study: A multi-use space featuring a home office, concealed bed and contrast display shelving.
Our brief for this project was to create a multi-use space to facilitate working from home, extend the social space from the adjoining living room as well as occasional guest sleeping.
With doorways on both end of the room, from the entranceway to the living room, the space acts as an occasional thoroughfare for foot traffic. Open display areas face toward the doorways to create an invitation to the space and focal point from the hallway.
Between two tall cabinets offering varied storage, hanging and shelving, hides a fold down king-size bed, concealed behind two hideaway pocket doors. Premium hardware and gas-assisted counterbalancing allows for easy, one handed operation of the 800mm doors and heavy bedframe.
The desk area features concealed sockets, a deep desktop and plenty of storage for a clean workspace. Furniture linoleum on the desktop introduces a soft contrast, both in colour and texture and allows for luxurious writing.
Cabinetry is constructed from a combination of solid Ash and Ash veneers, finished in a beautiful white hard-wax oil that increases the contrast in the Ash whilst cooling the tones to a more neutral pallet.
